How To Purchase A Fitted Kitchen For Any Home That Wont Break Any Budget

By Matthew Kerridge

If you have decided to purchase a new fitted kitchen, you may have noticed that there can be a huge range in prices and finished. It can be hard to tell whether or not you are spending your money on a high quality kitchen. But learning what features are the most important and how to make your budget stretch the farthest can help you to pick a kitchen that is well worth the money you are paying for it.

Locating a company with a reputation for excellent work and quality products should be your first move. There are many builders who offer fitted kitchens but not all of them are worth the money. You might think that a do it yourself kit will help save you some money but remember that a huge amount of work goes into the installation of a fitted kitchen and this may mean that you are in over your head. It can be a waste of money and an embarrassment to have to go back and ask for help later on. It may be better for you to go with an installation company in the first place.

Some of the areas that you should consider spending money on are the cabinets, the hinges and glides, and the counters. This is because these take the majority of the daily use and wear. Floors and appliances can be changed later so they are not as critical if you are trying to stay within budget.

Many people make the mistake of not looking for quality construction. They may not understand why they should be spending money on solid wood cabinets instead of ones made with particle board and wood veneer. If you scrimp on things like cabinets you may have a beautiful kitchen for about five years. Over time, cheaply made items may simply fall apart, leaving you with the need to replace everything all over again. This is not something that you want.

Solid wood is always something you should consider over particle board. Some builders may tell you that particle board is a great way of keeping costs down, but it isn't if you want to make sure your kitchen will last. Particle board can begin to deteriorate rapidly, especially if it gets damp. Veneers can peel up and chip off. You may find that screws to hold hinges will become loose very rapidly and this can mean your doors will begin to sag or even fall off. And, you can never refinish particle board the way you can a wooden cabinet.

Durable counters are also important. Look for ones that are heat and impact resistant. You want to find ones that are low maintenance and which work with the colors of the walls, floor and cabinets. Trends are not something that you want to incorporate into the basic structure of your kitchen. This is because trends change and you don't want your kitchen to look old or stale. Keep in mind that some of the hottest trends in counters may not last, so in this, you should pick the choice that makes you happy. Again, a reputable builder can give you information on your choices and the pros and cons of each.

A reputable installation company is critical to a good fitted kitchen. You want to make sure that they measure the area properly so that the proper sized items are ordered. There is nothing worse than finding out that the company has measured wrong and the cabinets are a few inches too large or too small. You also want to make sure that they have a good reputation. Like any other home renovation project you should ask for references from other customers. Money spent in this area may save you hundreds or thousands of dollars down the road.

If you love to cook, a new kitchen can be a dream. Making sure that you pick the right fitted kitchen can make sure your investment will be protected for a long time to come. - 33383
